The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is one of the most important cultural and social events in the Czech Republic. Thanks to its unique location in the historical center of the spa town, the relaxed atmosphere, and the openness that goes hand in hand with its personal and professional approach towards guests and regular visitors, the festival also enjoys an exceptional position among leading international events of its kind. And it is for this reason that prominent figures of world cinema, film professionals, and hordes of film fans of all ages and from all walks of life keep coming back, time after time.
This exhibit documents the atmosphere of the last twenty years of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Works by leading Czech documentary photographers provide a foray into diverse genres: portraits of eminent personalities of the film industry from home and abroad appear alongside documentary photos and backstage shots.
The atmosphere, nerves, and fun alike are encapsulated by the black-and-white photographs of both famous and completely unknown personalities. Photographs capture moments of glory on the main stage and document extraordinary events of the festival – including the Opening Ceremonies and award presentations.
The core of the exhibit is complemented by screenings of iconic festival trailers, plus archive shots of acting legends and famous directors in Czech and world cinema.
